Know your shoemakers: Coclico

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014

Ped fans, what does Coclico mean to you? If you’re like us, the first thought that bubbles up is “Fab ankle boots!” But behind those to-die-for booties is a company that’s committed to sustainable social and environmental practices, as well as to true master craftsmanship in shoe production.

We thought you might like to see a lovely video Coclico put together to showcase the work and workers at its factory in Mallorca, Spain. This small family-owned operation produces only Coclico shoes, and Coclico founder Sandra Canselier is on a first-name basis with the employees who make each style by hand.

Keep it short and sweet, Part 2

Friday, September 5th, 2014

Ped fans, in Part 1, we took a tour through the beautiful flatlands of this season’s ankle boots. (And word to the wise: many more flat-soled booties have since arrived from Trippen, Argila, Cliff Dweller, and Cydwoq! So much to love!)

Today, we’re gaining a little altitude by surveying our favorite heeled bootie designs. So step up and take a look!

When it comes to hella-beautiful heels, Chie Mihara is the reigning queen! She’s solved the difficult equation of how to elevate height and style without lowering comfort. Exhibit A: Chie’s new Carta.

The deep blue “Shantung” leather is as lovely as a midnight sky, and the black leather forming the knot over the toe and wrapping around the 3.5″ heel provides the perfect complement.

Another Chie Mihara beauty that will make you swoon and sigh is the stunning Dalatchi:

The shaft of this low boot is a jaw-dropping weave of wool and leather! We adore the contrast in textures between the shaft, the matte black leather upper, and the sculpted wooden heel and sole.

Argila also woos us with a wooden heel on its new Katniss ankle boot:

The sculpted 2.75″ heel works so beautifully with the streamlined curves of the leather upper on this sexy, sexy boot! Plus, Argila’s brass hardware on the twin zipperss (both inside and outside the shaft) is drop-dead gorgeous!

Like a boot with a few buckles? Argila has something drool-worthy for you, too! Check out the hellaciously great Harriet:

Truly, this is the boot that made everyone at Ped HQ ooh and aah when it came out of the box! From the trio of buckles, to the saucy zipper up the back, to the softly folded leather ruffle spilling out of the top, the Harriet is one hot tamale!

As long as we’re talking about booties with back zippers, let’s wax rhapsodic for moment about the Coclico Valentine:

What a knockout red boot–and it’s not so red that you can’t wear it every day! We especially like how the shaft dips down just slightly in back, making this bootie a good bet for all calves, from curvy to willowy!

Taking things even lower on the ankle is Coclico’s new Nanette, another big favorite this fall:

There’s something about the simple leather tie and slot over the interior tongue that sends this wood-heeled design into the stratosphere of style! And the brick color is versatile yet unusual.

Trippen offers a different take on a laced ankle boot with the easy-going but oh-so chic Facile:

The pearlescent brown leather is first tumbled for softness and then coated with a thin silver wax to give it a lustrous sheen. Plus, the Facile‘s 2.25″ rubber wedge sole lets you add height while remaining grounded.

Fine, fine, fine, all beautiful, but what if you want a bootie that’s an after-five showstopper? Presented for your approval, the Cydwoq Crater:

This femme fatale seduces with black matte leather and leather embossed to look like  lace! And if that’s not flirty enough, Cydwoq closes up the design with two back buttons that reveal just a hint of flesh in between the tabs.

Of course, if you really want to razzle dazzle ’em, zip in and zip up Cydwoq’s Hexagon:

A showboat of a shoe boot! You will definitely be the badass belle of the ball in this chic and edgy beauty! The woven antiqued silver leather will make everyone swoon, but the stable 2″ resin heel ensures you’ll be the last one standing!

We could go on and on because there are still so many beautiful booties to see, but we’ll leave you to explore them on your own at Ped’s main site! When it comes to boots this season, sweet and low is the way to go!

(In keeping with all the low-boot love we’re spreading, this week’s Sweet Treat is Fiorentini + Baker’s fab Elios bootie! Get 20% off by clicking “be sweet to your feet” at the bottom of the box on the left of most Ped pages, which whisks you to the Elios with the special “Sweet Treat” designation. Then pick your size and color, add it to your bag, and the discount will occur automatically at checkout!)

Half Time!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2014

Just like at many sports events, half time at Ped offers the chance to get up and stretch your legs–in new shoes! We’re midway through our summer sale, and many of the best styles of the season are now half-price. So it’s a great time to snag that pair you’ve been hoping to score!

One design we’ve adored from the first time we saw it (and tried it on!) is Argila’s Marisol:

So much to drool over here, from the Marisol‘s pinked edges to its of-the-moment use of metallic leather to the innovative internal heel support! Crush-worthy at $428, it’s true love at $214!

Another noteworthy metallic sandal is the Trippen Eye:

Easy to wear and super sexy, the Eye‘s innovative lacing that threads behind your heel and entwines your ankle will have all eyes on you! Eye-catching at $328, it’s a total looker at $149. (You’re correct–that is more than half off! Lucky you!)

Cydwoq also combines an ankle strap with a gorgeous metallic leather in its stellar Laser sandal:

Simple but sooooo dazzling! This versatile style, which easily goes from a picnic in the park to rooftop cocktails, was sweet at $254 but is decadently delicious at $127!

If black is your go-to year-in an year-out, the Coclico Tyrion offers similar quick-change charms:

Ri-di-culously sexy on, this badass style contrasts supple leather with a natural wood heel! Tempting at $392, it’s irresistible at $196.

Trippen also takes natural wood and sculpts it into a smooth full-sole experience in the Zen sandal clog:

So much more beautiful and comfortable than clunky clogs of the past, the Zen (which also comes in red) was a jewel at $248, but it’s a diamond at $129!

Some sandals are just for summer, but others are up for going to a party any time of year, like Chie Mihara’s Amor:

Suede and leather bloom in union! The Amor was a flirt at $412, but it’s a total knockout at $206!

Speaking of shoes that span the seasons, the Cliff Dweller Canoe readily paddles from summer right into fall:

The ideal weekend shoe, this classic style gets jazzed up with hatched embossing on the luxe Italian leather (which also comes in green). Worth every cent at $268, it’s a precious commodity at $134!

But the best shoe for walking from summer into fall is hands-down (feet down?) Pep Monjo’s fantastic Marcella oxford:

This winner’s a touchdown, TKO, century, slam dunk, and home run all rolled into one! Fantastic at $392, it’s every superlative under the sun at $196! (Seriously, catch it if you can!)

There are even more ways to play in Ped’s sale section, so get in the game! You’ll make points with your bank account and walk away a champion of style!

Sandals for sunny days: Part 3, High heels and platforms

Monday, May 19th, 2014

Ped fans, today we invite you to get high—on sandals, people, on sandals!

For the final leg of our three-part tour through Ped’s strap-happy styles, we continue our ascent by sampling high heels and platforms! In short, it’s time to go tall!

When it comes to kicking things up a notch, Chie Mihara is the queen of adding height while keeping soles happy. Exhibit A: the Chie Mihara Alicante:

What a feast for your feet, from the green suede in back to the woven brown leather up front! And thanks to Chie’s understanding of ergonomics and anatomy, the 3.75″ heel is a treat for your dogs that will keep them from barking and whining, even after hours of walking!

Suede also plays a starring role in Chie Mihara’s well-named Amor! Buckle up and fall in love:

Ay dios mio! The Amor‘s heel is a statuesque 4″, but Chie’s signature footbed and the 1″ platform under the ball of your foot mean it’s a breeze to wear!

If you’re looking for a heel that’s a little less showy but still chic, perhaps the Chie Calenta could be your cup of tea:

This unusual lace-up is one of our personal favorites this season because it’s so versatile, plus the embossed black leather is gorgeous!

Of course, one of our favorite ways to add height without hurt is to step onto a platform, like Coclico’s Merin:

The leather is luscious, the cork is lightweight, and the look is urban without being pretentious! Best of all, because the platform slopes from 2.75″ in back to 1.25″ up front, the pitch comes in at an easy-peasy 1.5″.

Another Coclico wedge that’s won our hearts is the Mosaic:

Such sauciness! This femme fetale brings together the best of an ankle boot with the airiness of a summer sandal. We particularly like the little lip that rims the heel, which offers a little extra security and edge.

Fiorentini + Baker also works wonders with a cork wedge, as evidenced by the knockout Dany:

With attitude to spare, the Dany stops traffic with its be-studded brown suede that extends down over the the black leather-covered platform, which slopes from 3.5″ in back to 1.5″ up front. You don’t have to be a rock star to strut like one!

Finally, let’s again drink in the beauty of the Trippen Mikli, which we first oohed and aahed over in our post celebrating wood soles:

This show stopper is the skyscraper in Ped city, with its sculpted wooden wedge rising a full 4.5″ in back! The 1.5″ lift up front brings the pitch to 3″, and Trippen’s skill at sculpting the footbed to match your sole’s contours means the Mikli feels fantastic when you slide in and crisscross the ankle strap!

The Mikli also just happens to be our Sweet Treat this week, so you can rise and shine for 20% off by clicking “be sweet to your feet” at the bottom of the box on the left at Ped’s main site!

So ends our air-conditioned travels through the many sandals of Ped! We gave you the lay of the land from the flats to the heights, but we didn’t visit all the styles, so feel free to explore on your own at Ped! So many beautiful ways to let your toes play in the sun all summer long!
