That’s a wrap!

Monday, April 18th, 2011

As much as we enjoy our winter woolens, we also enjoy putting them away when spring sails in with warmer weather! Nevertheless, we still need a little coziness in the early morning and after the sun goes down. Plus, it’s nice to to spice up a summer outfit with an extra dash of color and pattern. Just in time to fulfill both needs are the latest scarves from Epice and Sophie Digard!

Designed in Denmark and handcrafted by master weavers in India, Epice‘s gorgeous scarves are meticulously loomed from fine cotton and linen. Each is also wide enough to wear as a shawl when your shoulders get chilly. Meanwhile, Sophie Digard, the inimitable Parisian queen of crochet, always wows us with her linen creations that are light and soft wearable works of art!

Below is a sampling of our warm-weather favorites from Epice and Sophie!

Epice is famous for their imaginative use of color, exemplified by the bold, tropical palette of this new Casablanca Scarf:

Carmine, turquoise, yellow and khaki look so lively—it’s impossible to be in a bad mood when you have this fun linen and cotton scarf wound around your neck!

But if you prefer to make a quieter style statement, see what you think of Epice’s 100% linen Parisian Spring Scarf:

Graceful arabesques in cream dance across a warm gray background, perfectly accented with a patterned aqua border. So pretty!

Another Epice style that makes us sigh with delight is the Indian Summer Scarf:

A stylized floral pattern is interpreted in three different color combinations: cream and blue, grey and citron, and brown and turquoise. The ultralight fabric is 70% linen and 30% cotton, yielding a drop-dead gorgeous scarf that’s an ideal summer weight!

Of course, Sophie Digard knows to how thrill with flowers, too! Check out the sweetness of her new Love & Chance Scarf:

Handmade velvet posies scatter across this grass green linen scarf—the very essence of summer!!! As you know, I have a weakness for anything green, but Ped also offers the Love & Chance scarf in ecru for those of you who love all things cream.

Needless to say, Sophie  has created a slue of new crocheted designs in lovely linen. One of the loveliest is the Confetti Scarf!

We keep picking up this scarf because its pattern of small diamonds interspersed among larger concentric circles—each with a tufted velvet center—is so mesmerizing. The variation in colors is delicious against a background of pale blue. (Use the “zoom” tool to fully appreciate this beauty!)

But perhaps our favorite of all the wonderful scarves this season is Sophie Digard’s super-super-super-cool Ecouter Summer Scarf:

The design of this scarf is so innovative!!! Sophie crochets an open honeycomb in a juicy summer palette of pink, turquoise, red, mustard, blue, and more on one half of the Ecouter’s length; on the other half, she uses the same palette to create tiny parallel stripes that separate and twist into fantastic fringe at the end! Did I mention the Ecouter is super cool? It’s SUPER COOL! (We also have the Ecouter Scarf in a springy pastel palette.)

And there are more designs from both Epice and Sophie Digard to dazzle you at Ped’s main site. Whether you’re looking for a light wrap or a beautiful and unique accessory to enliven your wardrobe, Epice and Sophie Digard have you covered!

Traipse through spring in Trippen!

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Hello to Ped fans from the flood of treasures deluging the Ped warehouse! Fantastic new things for spring and summer are arriving as fast as we can open the boxes!

When we started unpacking Trippen’s latest, though, everything came to a momentary halt while we all gathered around to smile. Such innovation! Such fun! Such sheer funkiness that makes everyone want to dance! The fact that Trippen is socially committed to treating its workers well and making shoes with as little environmental impact as possible makes us love them all the more! Give it up for German ingenuity and genuine ethics!

Here, for your viewing—and wearing!—pleasure, are a few new Trippen favorites:

Embodying everything we like about Trippen, the new Match is the perfect kick-around shoe for spring (and every other season, come to think of it):

Constructed on Trippen’s “penna” rubber sole, this pebbled brown flat will keep you light on your feet. We love the exposed seams and the back-to-back button closure in front!

Another winner in the lightweight category is the Trippen Sioux:

So soft and utterly featherweight, this simple leather charmer redefines “comfortable.” Once you wear it,  we predict the rest of your shoes are going to get a little dusty.

Another great wear-everywhere shoe, also built on Trippen’s “cups” rubber sole, is the Knife:

What’s fantastic about the lacing is it not only looks great, but it also adjusts to accommodate almost any foot width. Form and function = the best!

For those of you looking for little more height and a jolt of urban edge, check out Trippen’s Tarantula:

Not nearly as terrifying as a big, hairy spider, but heart-stopping in its own way, the Tarantula will have all eyes on you! But you’ll be comfortable in the spotlight since this stunning sandal boot stands on Trippen’s super-cushy 1.75″ t-shaped rubber wedge.

It’s hard to single out one design, but perhaps the favorite of all our favorites is Trippen’s new Good:

This sliced and spiced interpretation of the classic mary jane is off the hook! Plus, we adore the “black ice” leather—a color like no other! Too cool!

And lots more Trippen fabulousness  resides over at Ped’s main site! So click over, and put a German spring in your step this spring!

By the way, this week’s “sweet treat” is Trippen’s Medea Boot, which looks terrific any season! (Ped fans know I love boots with summer dresses!) Simply click “be sweet to your feet” in the upper right corner of any Ped page, to arrive at the Medea with the discount code that will enable you to take 20% off at checkout! Give the people behind you something to see, while you give your feet a gorgeous and comfortable treat!

Cha cha with Chie!

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Here’s something that makes everyone at Ped HQ smile: boxes of new Chie MIhara styles arriving on our doorstep from Spain! We have such a good time admiring each design as we unpack Chie’s latest! After all, Chie Mihara exemplifies everything we love at Ped: a unique design sense, meticulous craftsmanship, and comfort without compromise.

Let us tantalize you with a taste of what Chie’s whipped up for the upcoming warm weather!

We know it’s still winter where many of you live, so we’ll start with a number you can wear right now—and keep wearing right through spring and summer: Chie’s Lorensa.

Honestly, this heeled oxford is in a class by itself! As usual, Chie gets the details just right, from the parallel lines of sinuous topstitching to the perforated leather that lets your tootsies breathe when the weather heats up.

Another new design that features beautiful topstitching and leatherwork is the Fideua:

The woven leather over the toe, contrasting stitching, and lacing are rather unusual ingredients to combine, but what a tasty dish they make! Plus, we love the navy blue color!

Chie is always so good with selecting the perfect hues! Our favorite style for sheer cheerfulness is the sunny-day Yoisho:

What a great shade of yellow, and it works so well with the 1970s’ retro vibe of this sandal. Buckling up the Yoisho will give you both a physical and an emotional boost!

Speaking of buckles, we decided to bring back the smoking-hot Bankok, one of the sexiest styles Chie’s ever designed:

The Bankok is the very definition of “knockout”! When you strap on this badass beauty, you may want to carry a pocket fan to revive the people who can’t take the heat of your sizzling sauciness!

But maybe you prefer to go more girly with your flirtatious style. If so, join us in sighing over Chie’s Osmo:

In a word: DEVASTATING! It simply doesn’t get any more glamorous than this rosette-embellished, red suede t-strap! In the Rojo, you’re guaranteed to set hearts afire!

Some gals can pull off the Osmo on a daily basis, but if you want something a little more subdued for everyday wear, check out the Chie Mihara Oyko:

We love the richness of the whiskey-colored suede combined with the rich brown leather—so sophisticated. This gorgeous sandal is perfect for going from day wear to date wear!

Delicious, eh? And there are even more Chie Mihara styles to feast upon at Ped’s main site. But before you click over, watch this video to learn a little more about  Chie’s philosophy and design process. We promise it will make you even happier to have her shoes on your feet!

(By the way, the “sweet treat” this week is Trippen’s fringed and fun Country Bootie. Click “be sweet to your feet” in the upper right corner of any Ped page to reach the Country with the magic discount code that instantly takes 20% off at checkout!)

Beside ourselves over Cydwoq!

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Everyone knows how crazy we are for all things Cydwoq! But, honestly, Rafi and Ari—the father and son team responsible for Cydwoq’s ultra-cool designs—have really outdone themselves for 2011. A smorgasbord of new warm-weather styles just arrived in the Ped warehouse, and Cydwoq has served up something for everyone from strappy heels for the girly girls to run-around-town flats for the tomboys at heart.

Here’s a taste to whet your appetite and encourage you to think spring (or, if you’re lucky, mid-winter vacation)!

One area where Cydwoq excels is in creating practical walking shoes that still turn every head with their unusual style! Case in point, the new Sabates:

Too cool!!! But cutting edge funkiness is not the end of the story because these artistic shoes are also easy to wear. Simply slide your foot into the welcoming interior—no buckles, zippers, or even elastic to fiddle with!

Another great runabout style is Cydwoq’s Penalty, which is our pick for the first thing to pack if you’re heading somewhere warm.

You can cruise through sightseeing, shopping, and sipping a cocktail at the end of the day, looking terrific whatever the venue. And thanks to Cydwoq’s famous construction, you may be tired, but your feet will be blister-free and ready to go again tomorrow.

But maybe you’re looking for a wearable heel to go to the office (without sacrificing any snazz). Then breathe in the Vapour!

Everyone at Ped is smitten with the Vapour’s off-center t-strap. Plus the red color is simply delicious. (I ask you who doesn’t love a red shoe?)

And if you enjoy a sassy buckle-and-heel combo, then Cydwoq’s new Possession has your name on it!

Just like A.S. Byatt’s novel of the same name, this beautiful heel embodies both a 19th century romanticism and an utterly modern attitude. For lovers of the steampunk aesthetic, the Possession is a retro-futuristic dream come true!

Another thing we admire about Cydwoq is how their designs often bring artsy and organic together into a harmonious whole.

The new Buds sandal is earthy and urban all at once. We love the way rivets connect the leather leaves, but we confess this sandal had us at green (our favorite)!

For sheer impact, though, we recommend lacing up Cydwoq’s new Expo!

Kapow! This sandal’s rustic yet clean-lined design takes the gladiator sandal a step ahead, out of the arena and onto the runway! Super chic—imagine how terrific the Expo will look with a floaty summer dress! A perfect exercise in contrasts!

The above bevy of beauties is just a glimpse of the panorama of Cydwoq styles awaiting you at Ped’s main site! You’ll love the view—but Cydwoq’s hand-crafted comfort is what will win your heart!

(Have you seen this week’s “sweet treat”? It’s Trippen’s over-the-knee Nox Boot! Whether you pull it high or cuff it and scrunch, the Nox is the perfect tall, dark, and lovely boot you’ve been hoping to find. Just click “be sweet to your feet” in the upper right corner of any Ped page to be transported to the Nox, where you’ll find the magic code that will bring a cool 20% off  when entered in the box at checkout!)

Ped-setting across the pond!

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Hello, Ped fans! Sorry to leave the blog untended for so long, but I have the best possible excuse: I was shoe shopping for you in Milan and Paris! And, wow, is there a lot to look forward to next spring! Not only will Ped have the latest from your favorite designers, but we’re bringing back NDC from Belgium and adding Vic Matie sandals from Italy.

I began my style hunt in Milan, where the shoe show had an ultra-hip, retro-70s aesthetic.

So fun to look for shoes at the Micam show in Milan!

Of course, I ran into several of Ped’s treasured designers. It’s always a treat to see Chie Mihara!

Chie Mihara has such a great spirit—you just have to smile with her!

And here’s the lovely Ellen Verbeek, one of the latest additions to the Ped family. (If you haven’t checked out her gorgeous wood-soled boots yet, you really must!)

Ellen Verbeek is as beautiful as her designs!

After Milan, it was off to Paris for another shoe show (tis the season).

The Paris show's aesthetic was streamlined and modern.

I managed to get three of Ped’s favorites in one shot! Check it out:

Cydwoq's Rafi Balouzian, Chie Mihara, and Trippen's Michael Oehler—what a design-tastic trio!

You may be wondering what trends I discovered. Well, next spring is going to be very colorful; I ordered shoes in red, yellow, grey, teal, navy, caramel, along with lots of metallics, which continue to sizzle. Look for studded detailing on bags and shoes. Also, wedge heels—both wood and cork—are all the rage. And Chie’s line for Spring 2011 features lots of contrast stitching and mixes of suede and leather.

Perhaps my favorite trend is oxfords worn with skirts or cropped pants and no socks! Love that! Two looks I don’t care for, though, are thick socks with heels and nylons worn with peep-toe wedges. Ugh!

I became a little obsessed with photographing the wide range of shoes the buyers and sellers were wearing at the show. Here’s a sampler of what the shoe pros were sporting in Paris:

Honestly, two of the best parts of the day were walking to and from work because my route let me stroll through the beautiful Jardin des Tuileries, which looked particularly spectacular blooming with fall flowers.

Aahhh, I love Paris in the autumn!

(By the way, in case you haven’t discovered it yet, this week’s “sweet treat” is Ellen Verbeek’s knockout Camille Boot! Get 20% off this Belgian stunner by clicking “be sweet to your feet” in the top right corner of any Ped page, which will instantly take you to the Camille and the sought-after discount code!)
